Junk Food: Yum or Yikes?

Junk food is every kid, in fact every human including kids, youngsters and old people everyone’s favourite. Junk food includes pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, pani puris, chaats and cakes etc. Food is generally any substance that is meant to provide nutritional support and help one survive. It is expected to boost one’s immune system, strengthen their bones, help different functions of the body, including the digestive system, keep all organs functioning, lower the risk of diseases, support muscles and promote over all growth. Every human being has different food habits and food preferences.

It’s true, junk food is a favorite of many people. Burgers, pizzas, and sweets are all delicious, but did you know that eating too much junk food can have a serious impact on your health? Junk food is high in calories, sugar, and fat, and low in the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. This means that if you eat too much of it, you can become overweight, develop heart disease, and even increase your risk of cancer.

The problem with junk food is that it’s designed to be addictive. Foods like cakes, biscuits, processed meat, packaged foods, snacks, sweets, chocolates, alcoholic and carbonated drinks come under the category of junk food as they fail to serve the purpose of having food for nutrition. Junk food basically includes all the food that is high in calories, sugar or fat with very less proteins, minerals or vitamins that are required for the human body. These foods are often high in salt, sugar, and fat, which are all things that our brains are hardwired to crave. This means that when we eat junk food, our brains release dopamine, a feel-good chemical that makes us want to eat more.

But the more junk food we eat, the more it can harm our health. Eating too much junk food can lead to weight gain, heart disease, and other health problems. That’s why it’s important to try to balance your diet with nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.

If you’re someone who eats junk food every day, try cutting down a little and having a balanced diet. You can start by swapping out junk food for healthier alternatives. For example, instead of having a burger and fries for lunch, try a salad with grilled chicken. Or, instead of having a candy bar for a snack, try an apple with peanut butter. These small changes can make a big difference in your overall health.

Remember, health is the most important thing!
