The capital of Qatar, Doha began painting the oldest, most popular and busiest streets in blue because the Doha engineers believe that this move will help reduce the temperature by 15-20 degrees and also increase the service life of the coating.
According to a Doha engineer, the temperature of dark asphalt is 20 degrees Celsius, higher than the actual temperature, because black attracts and radiates heat. Well, the logic seems to have weight!
As per current reports, only the central streets of the city are being painted now, because the area has hardly any trees and the temperature can rise to 50 degrees Celsius; which is way too much.
However, the City’s administration thinks that this experimental project will help tackle extreme heat, and this experiment will be under evaluation for 18 months.
Here’s a picture showing The Abdullah Bin Jassim Street near Souq Waqif looking so attractive.
