Renowned poet Himayat Ali Shair passes away in Canada!

Renowned Pakistani Urdu poet Himayat Ali Shair passes away on 16th July,  Tuesday early morning in Toronto, Canada after a prolonged illness.

According to details, he was 93 years old at the time of his death and was currently settled in Canada where he died after suffering a heart attack today.

Shair was born on 14 July, 1926 in Aurangabad, British India and moved to Karachi after Partition. He then pursued an MA in Urdu at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro to start his writing career.

Himayat Ali Shair worked as a lyricist for movie soundtracks for which he received numerous awards while also managing to produce his own film. Films with his work include Jab se Dekha hai TumheDil ne Tujhe maan liyaDaamanEk tera SahaaraKaneezMairay MehboobTasveer and Khilona just to name a few.

He was also applauded and well-regarded for works like, ‘Aag Mein Phool’, ‘Shikast Aarzoo’ and ‘Mitti ka Qarz’.
