Ice in Iceland melting fast and its alarming!

Iceland has become an attraction for a lot of people in recent years but its ice is melting faster than normal. Iceland has around 269 glaciers, which is now facing some change in climate caused by Global Warming. It’s hard for me to picture that such huge bodies of ice are melting away. Iceland isn’t alone, around the world the situation is the same and ice is gradually melting which is a significant threat to the environment of earth.

There are 400,000 glaciers and ice caps spread across the Globe and over 5.8 million square miles of ice. According to a source, Greenland just lost 4 trillion pounds of ice, in just one day. That is almost half of its ice sheet surface? This much melting is rare, at this time of year. A senior researcher says “what climate change is doing is increasingly loading the dice to set up weather conditions that can tip the ice sheets into these mass loss events”.

Local communities are also being affected by climate change. A reporter at National Geographic said, “the ice is not the only issue here but the life of people here is also affected”. A study suggests that even there is no climate change, more Antarctic ice sheets are going to melt away. It will cause the sea level to rise more rapidly. The amount of ice which is floating out of the region has nearly doubled in the last 30 years.

We need to take this matter seriously and aware people about its consequences. The government should also step and take measures to overcome the issue and make the environment livable.
