Kitchen Hacks

One thing most people who never cook have in common, is the apprehension that comes with the unknown. For some people it’s easy to follow recipes from books like Dalda ka Dastarkhwan or even go to Dalda’s YouTube channel, to replicate dishes. But those of us who lack the patience and precision need some quick hacks to fill an empty belly up! Here are some:

• Create a weekly meal plan. This will help you stay organized and guarantee that you obtain all you need in a single supermarket trip.

• Make meat portions as soon as you get it home, based on how much you’ll need for the week. Now marinade it and store it in the fridge to use as needed.

• Marinate the meat in yoghurt overnight to save time in the kitchen. Yogurt tenderizes meat and improves its flavor. Furthermore, the chicken will not break up when cooking.

• If cutting onions makes you cry, put them in the fridge. There won’t be any tears! This is one of the most effective desi cooking techniques.

• Make a bit extra to freeze whenever you cook off a box. Haleem, Nihari, Chicken Karhai, Daal, and other dishes can be easily frozen. Simply take them out of the freezer, thaw, cook, and garnish as needed. Never freeze a dish containing potatoes. They taste best when added fresh.

• Choose the right oil for your meal. Dalda Canola and Sunflower is the most used, but if you are more cautious about your health than Dalda Olive Oil is your solution.

• Do you need an extra dish for a supper at home and want to save time? Buy frozen kebabs (chapli or seekh) and bake them according to package directions. Now, sauté some onions and add some chopped tomatoes. Once a nice paste has formed, add the kebab. Even the most critical visitor will be impressed.
